The maximum of efficiency is obtained with mirror flaps (reflectors) in position. When Balcar lights of Fluxlite family are used with their mirror flaps, lighting is pleasant and shadowless, over a 65° angle. Spotflux and Powerflux lights produce a more directional light, angle lit is narrower, and thus more controllable. Whatever the situation, a more contrasted image is obtained with the use of grid spots (60°, 40°, 30°, or 20°). All Balcar fixtures accept grid spots.

• Use 60° grid spots to eliminate the light on the side without reducing the quantity of light on the subject. 60° grid spots absorb only 10% of light at the center.

• Use 40° grid spots on front lights to better control lighting and to make it more comfortable for reading the prompter. They are also useful to eliminate bothersome reflections on backgrounds. 40° grid spots absorb 20% of light at the center.

• Use 30° and 20° grid spots for back and side lights to avoid lens flare. The 30° and 20° grid spots absorb 25% and 30% of light respectively.

• Use 40° and 30° grid spots on overhead lights to avoid lens flare. Aim the light directly down towards the subject. The lighting effect will be soft with livelxy reflections on the head and shoulders of the news anchor, but without objectionable shadows.
